Burn Permits and Fire Restrictions
Burn Permits

In Utah, open burning is regulated by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Burn windows typically open:

  • Spring: March 30 – May 30
  • Fall: September 15 – October 30
  • Obtain a permit from their local fire warden or county office.
  • Notify dispatch before lighting any burn.
  • Burn only natural vegetation — no garbage, plastics, or construction waste.
During high fire danger, county or state agencies may issue burn bans. Always check NWSSD’s Facebook page or utahfireinfo.gov before burning.
  • Never burn on windy days.
  • Keep a shovel, water, and extinguisher nearby.
  • Stay with the fire until completely out and cold.
Violating burn restrictions can result in fines and liability for any damages caused.
